Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.
This is Jesus' invitation to discipleship in Matthew 11:28-30.
Father Patrick M. Crino, Pastor
St. Thomas the Apostle Parish is deeply grateful for the commitment of its youth altar servers. Their service and dedication are an important part of parish life.
Altar serving promotes leadership skills, confidence, kindness, compassion, and selflessness. This role supports a deeper spiritual meaning of the Eucharistic Celebration and liturgy and
leads to a greater love for God.
Hear directly from our current youth altar servers...in their own words.
“I like altar serving because it is fun and gives you a chance to connect closer to God. My favorite part of being an altar sever is that you can experience the Mass differently. You are more engaged, now that you are a part of the Mass. It gives you the chance to work with other kids and to get to know the priests and deacons better. It also gives you a chance to take on more responsibility and develop leadership skills.”
"Altar serving allows me to step back and immerse myself in the liturgy. Being up close demonstrates the intentionality of every action and word. It has helped me develop an unparalleled appreciation for the Mass. Serving challenges me to be active in liturgy like in the world. I wish I would have gotten involved sooner."
“I was influenced to be an altar server by seeing other kids helping during church service. It made me want to help as well. Now that I am altar server I am thankful for the deacons, the priests and other servers who have helped me during my service. Being an altar server is fun and it helps me feel closer to God.”
Why I love altar serving is because you serve for God and help the priest. Also you show the kids what happens up there and it is so fun; helping God in the church alter serving and learning throughout the time altar serving.
It is just fun altar serving so that is why I like it. I enjoy giving my time at my parish.
My favorite thing about alter serving is you just know that you’re actually serving for God. You know that you’re doing the right thing. It's fun to alter serve at different places. You get to meet new people.
You get to help the priest and be a role model for other kids.
To be an altar server to me means I have the opportunity to strengthen my relationship with God. I have the gift of being closer to Him by helping to do His service for His people. By being an example to others and hopefully bring them closer in their love of Him and His Holy Catholic Church. I am very blessed to be able to serve Him and show my appreciation for His love for me and those I love. Thank you, Jesus.
