Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.
This is Jesus' invitation to discipleship in Matthew 11:28-30.

The holidays are coming and friends and family will be gathering. For many there will be an empty chair at the table, a first holiday without a love one due to death. These "firsts" are difficult, however they are more painful to the individual who had to make decisions on their own for a loved one due to lack of advance directives. These folks are always asking themselves if they made the right decisions, was it what their loved one would have wanted and the heaviest of questions "did I make them suffer longer because I didn't want to let them go". They carry this weight and are unable to begin the grieving process because of these doubts.
There will come a time where you may not be able to speak for yourself and someone else will need to be your voice. Illness and accidents happen at every age. Not all illness and accidents are terminal. But to ensure your decisions are voiced and requests followed YOU HAVE TO HAVE DESIGNATED SOMEONE TO BE YOUR VOICE! You also have to have the conversation with family and friends with regards to your decisions and the best time to do this is when you are in good health. But, many times it is a diagnosis of an issue that spurs you into action.
The St. Jeanne Jugan Ministry with Elders invites you to attend a FREE upcoming workshop on Advance Care Planning in Catholic Teaching. Live a life of peace, love and dignity as you gift your family a life of love, decision and peace.
