Sacraments

Christ instituted seven sacraments of the new law. They are:

• Baptism
• Reconciliation
• Holy Eucharist
• Confirmation - Teens
• Confirmation - Adults
• Matrimony
• Anointing of the Sick
• Holy Orders

The seven sacraments reflect all stages and all important moments of Christian life; they give birth and increase, healing and mission to the Christian's life of faith. 

Do I have to be registered at the Parish?
Parents are to be registered, active members of the Parish. You may register online or go to the Parish office.

My child is older but needs to be baptized. What should I do?
 Children - in Grade 2 and above - who desire to become Catholic and need to be baptized, receive Faith Formation through the Right of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC) process. There are classes for children of all ages who are not yet baptized. When registering for those classes, parents will be asked which sacraments your child has received. Based on those answers, we will advise which class times are appropriate for your child.

What if my child is older and still needs some sacraments?
There are classes for children of all ages. When registering for classes, parents will be asked which sacraments your child has received. Based on those responses, we will advise the class times appropriate for your child.

What if my child was baptized but not in the Catholic Church?
If your child has been baptized but not in the Catholic Church, contact Deacon Ed Sheffer at [email protected]. In some cases the child may need to make a 'Profession of Faith,' which is simply a statement that the child believes in the teachings of the Catholic Church.

What does my child need to receive Reconciliation?
Students must be at least 7 years of age (Grade 2), be baptized, and prepared for the sacrament.

What is needed to prepare for Confirmation?
Students must be in high school, be baptized, receive Reconciliation and complete preparatory classes. A sponsor and Saint name is also required. A Confirmation packet will be available with information and necessary forms to complete.

What does my child need to receive First Communion?
Students must be at least 7 years of age (Grade 2 ), be baptized and receive Reconciliation and complete preparatory classes.

I moved into the area but my child had begun formation classes at another parish. Can my child still get credit for the other class?
Request and submit a letter from the previous parish/formation program stating the classes that were taken and which sacraments the child is prepared to receive.

What is needed to register my child for a Sacrament class?
A copy of the child's baptistmal certificate is required for all childen receiving any sacrament.

I have only partial custody of my child. Is there anything I need to know?
In a few circumstances, custody agreements may have an impact on a chld receiving sacraments. Indicate on the Registration Form if there is such a custody agreement; we will work with you.

As a parent, am I required to attend Mass?
All Catholics are obligated to attend Sunday Mass (or a Saturday Mass) weekly. It is also expected that all their children regularly attend Mass.

How is it determined if my child is to receive Sacraments?
Parents and catechist both are to discern the readiness of a child to receive sacraments. If there is a concern  regarding a child's readiness, parents and the Formation Office will together further discern the best option for the child. That could either be another way/resource for the parent to prepare the child and cultivate his/her readiness OR have the child wait until another year.
